Best Time to Trade Gold: Forex Sessions in Kosovo and Albania Time

By IDL Capital · · 6 min read

Gold trades almost 24 hours a day from Monday to Friday, but it does not move the same way all day. Most of the big moves happen in a few specific windows. Knowing them helps you trade when the market is active and stay out when it is slow and choppy.

All times below are in Central European Time, used in Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia and most of Europe. Session times are approximate and vary slightly by broker.

The three main sessions

SessionSummer time (CEST)Winter time (CET)
Asian (Tokyo)02:00 – 11:0001:00 – 10:00
London09:00 – 18:0009:00 – 18:00
New York14:00 – 23:0014:00 – 23:00
London–New York overlap14:00 – 18:0014:00 – 18:00

Europe and the US change their clocks on different dates. Europe moves to winter time on the last Sunday of October, the US on the first Sunday of November. For that week or so, US sessions and news start one hour earlier than usual in European time. The same happens in spring.

When gold usually moves most

London open (around 09:00)

Volume rises quickly as European banks start trading. Gold often breaks out of its quiet overnight range, or fakes a breakout and reverses. Many traders mark the Asian session high and low and watch how price reacts to them.

US data releases (14:30, sometimes 16:00)

Major US economic releases, such as NFP, CPI and jobless claims, usually come out at 14:30 CET/CEST. Gold can move several dollars within seconds. Spreads widen and stops can be filled at worse prices.

London–New York overlap (14:00 to 18:00)

This is normally the most liquid and volatile part of the day for gold. Clear trends often develop here.

Fed decisions (usually 20:00 summer, varies)

Federal Reserve rate decisions and press conferences happen in the US afternoon, which is evening in Europe. They can reverse the whole day's move.

When to be careful

  • The Asian session. Gold often ranges slowly, with fake moves. Fine for range trading, poor for breakouts.
  • Late Friday. Liquidity drops, and holding trades over the weekend means risking a price gap on Monday.
  • Around 23:00 to 00:00. Brokers roll over daily, and spreads can widen sharply for a few minutes.
  • Bank holidays. Thin markets on US or UK holidays can produce erratic moves.

A practical routine

  • Check the economic calendar each morning for high-impact US news.
  • Mark the Asian range and key levels before London opens.
  • Focus your trading on 09:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00.
  • Avoid opening new positions in the few minutes before major news.
